Cailliaud, a French mineralogist, followed the Egyptian army up the Nile into Sudan in 1821 and became one of the first Europeans to describe and draw the ruins of ancient Meroë, capital of the Kingdom of Kush. The lithographs show the pyramids of Meroë and Begrawiyah, the temples of Naga, Musawwarat and Mount Barkal, the towns and cataracts of Sennar, Dongola and Nubia, the Egyptian oases, ten detailed sheets of his map of the Nile, and plates of weapons, utensils, insects, birds, shells and plants. Presented in the original order with English captions translated from the French plate titles, scanned from the Missouri Botanical Garden copy.\u003c\/p\u003e\n","brand":"Nile Book Store","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":67722872291576,"sku":"EN-cailliaud-meroe-atlas","price":1.99,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0802\/4798\/0280\/files\/cover_final_a6d47e69-09bd-4dbe-bc14-6e3efe0f3f70.jpg?v=1792343281","url":"https:\/\/nilebookstore.com\/products\/voyage-to-meroe-the-atlas-of-the-nile-nubia-and-sennar-by-frederic-cailliaud","provider":"Nile Book Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
