Air Fighters Comics launched in 1941 from Hillman Periodicals and introduced Airboy — a teenage pilot whose plane Birdie was alive and could flap her wings. One of the most beloved and unique concepts in Golden Age aviation comics, Airboy was popular enough to be revived by Eclipse Comics in the 1980s and by Image Comics in 2015. The original Hillman issues are now scarce and highly collectible.
