After several years of travel, four of them spent in Egypt, I arrived in Paris at the end of February 1819. I had been fortunate enough to make a number of discoveries in that classical land. The welcome I received from the government and from members of the institutes of France and Egypt inspired in me a strong desire to attempt discoveries of still greater importance.

I therefore resolved to see once more that beautiful Egyptian sky, which I had left only to embrace my parents after nine full years of separation. In April 1819, the Minister of the Interior gave me instructions to return to Egypt. Astronomical and physical instruments were placed at my disposal, and I received everything necessary to carry out the honorable mission entrusted to me.

Four volumes of exploration and two monumental atlases—together in a complete illustrated English EPUB.

Between 1819 and 1822, Frédéric Cailliaud traveled through Egypt, Nubia, Meroë, Sennar, the Blue and White Niles, and beyond Fazogli. His account became one of the foundational records of early nineteenth-century exploration in the region, combining a vivid journey narrative with archaeology, geography, route surveys, meteorology, languages, and natural history.

This Nile Book Store edition is an AI-assisted English informational translation of the complete four-volume French text published in 1826–1827. It also preserves all 149 original plates and maps from the two large-format 1823 atlases, displayed in a clean, centered, single-column layout.
