📖 Delivered as a downloadable ePub file.

Description

All 110 chromolithograph plates of Owen Jones's The Grammar of Ornament (London: Day & Son, 1856), the Victorian masterpiece of colour printing and the most influential pattern book ever published. Jones surveyed the decorative arts of the world, from ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome to Byzantine, Arabian, Turkish, Moresque, Persian, Indian and Chinese design, then Celtic, medieval, Renaissance, Elizabethan and Italian styles, ending with plates of leaves and flowers from nature. The Islamic and Egyptian plates, drawn from the Alhambra and from Cairo, remain a primary reference for designers. Each plate appears full-page with its printed style name and number, scanned from the Getty Research Institute copy of the 1856 first edition.
