A rare two-volume woman traveller’s account of eastern Sudan, restored as a single illustrated EPUB.
In 1878, Cornelia Mary Speedy travelled from Suakin toward Kassala and the Settit, recording the journey in letters to her mother. First published in 1884, her account preserves vivid observations of Red Sea travel, caravan life, local encounters, harsh landscapes, animals, camps, and the practical difficulties of moving through nineteenth-century Sudan.
This Nile Book Store edition combines both original volumes in one clean, reflowable EPUB. It includes all twenty illustrated pages from the first edition, reproduced as facsimiles, including Suakin Harbour and causeway, Kassala, camping scenes, Hamran figures, and contemporary portraits.
- Complete Volumes I and II
- Regular reflowable EPUB
- Twenty original illustrated-page facsimiles
- Structured navigation through 32 letters
- Public-domain 1884 text
- Instant digital download — no physical item
Historical note: This nineteenth-century travel narrative contains attitudes and terminology of its period. Obvious scanning artifacts have been removed while historical spelling and the author’s voice have been retained.
