The Land of Midian (Revisited), Volume II

In 1877, Sir Richard F. Burton returned to the Midian region of north-western Arabia on a longer, more extensive second Khedivial expedition, following up on the survey described in his earlier book, "The Gold-Mines of Midian and the Ruined Midianite Cities." "The Land of Midian (Revisited)" (1879) is his two-volume account of that expedition.

This is Volume II, covering the march south through the unknown lands of central and eastern Midian, ruined cities and turquoise mines, the cruise down the Red Sea coast to El-Haura and El-Wijh, and the expedition's return via the Wady Hamz. It closes with a Conclusion and five appendices covering expedition logistics, botany, entomology, and a full meteorological journal kept throughout the journey.

Burton (1821-1890) was a British explorer, writer, orientalist, and diplomat, celebrated for his disguised pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina and his translation of the Arabian Nights.
